Curtains Up

A Night Where Laughter, Music and Purpose Took Centre Stage

The stage was set, the lights dimmed, and from the very first moment Curtains Up proved this was no ordinary fundraising event.

In support of Clowns in the Sky, the evening delivered something truly special — a seamless blend of comedy, music and heartfelt connection, all for an incredible cause.

Opening the show was award winning entertainer and absolute comedy gold, Kev Orkian — and what an opening it was. Effortlessly commanding the room, Kev had the audience in stitches within minutes with his signature mix of musical comedy and quick-fire wit hit every note perfectly.

A standout moment came when he hit us with his brilliantly reimagined take on a Elton John classic — a cover with a twist, that had the entire theatre roaring with laughter.

But it wasn’t just about the jokes. In true Kev Orkian style, he brought the audience into the heart of the performance, none more so than Dawn who, for one unforgettable evening, became his “girlfriend.” The result? A glowing, hilarious, and surprisingly touching (This is sarcasm to the max) tribute that perfectly captured the spirit of the night: funny, uplifting, near the knuckle, yet so full of joy and so very entertaining.

As the laughter settled and the tone changed, the energy didn’t drop for a second.

Taking to the stage was powerhouse vocalist Angie Brown, who quite simply lit up the theatre. With a voice that filled every corner of the room, she delivered a stunning set of both new material and timeless favourites.

And then came the moment everyone had been waiting for — her iconic track, I’m gonna get ya . From the first note, the atmosphere transformed. The crowd were on their feet, singing, dancing, and completely immersed in the performance. It was electric — one of those rare live moments where everything just clicks.

After Angie’s show-stopping set, the evening paused briefly for an interval — but the buzz in the room never faded. Guests had the chance to take part in a raffle, with a fantastic selection of prizes generously donated by local small businesses and individuals, adding that extra layer of community spirit to the night.

The foyer was just as lively, thanks to the brilliant photo pod experience from Flash and Pose Pod, where guests captured some truly memorable moments — including some fabulous snaps with Angie herself.

Then it was time for the second act. Kev returned to the stage, this time taking a moment to share more about the incredible work of Clowns in the Sky, grounding the evening in its true purpose before building the excitement once again.

With that, he introduced the headline act — Si Cranstoun and his band.

From the very first note, the energy lifted yet again. Si had the entire audience on their feet almost instantly. With his unmistakable sound, infectious rhythm, and a collection of wonderfully endearing and engaging anecdotes, his set felt effortless and full of personality. It was the kind of performance that completely draws you in — and before anyone realised, it was over.

And that was perhaps the only downside of the night… it ended.

Curtains Up wasn’t just a show — it was an experience.

A celebration of talent, community, and the power of coming together for a meaningful cause.

An unforgettable evening filled with laughter, music, connection — and a reminder that when people come together for the right reasons, something truly magical happens.

Please accept this heartfelt thank you to you, a very good friend who has been there through some incredibly intricate and physically demanding projects over the last decade — some of them have been truly huge beyond belief. Thank you as well for being a listening ear during some difficult health challenges over the past six months. I genuinely could not have put this show on without your support, patience and kindness.
Your help has meant more than words can say — which is probably just as well, because I’m not always the best with words.
